Well this album, this is one that I have very mixed opinions of. "Take A Load Off" I go back and forth on - didn't like it a lot this time around when I wrote the review but then heard it after and liked it more. I think I'm caught by how Weiland says "even when WE used to do drugs" like 'don't forget it wasn't just me' - that might be bugging me. I'm losing it.let me move on! Okay the review, another vote for "Between The Lines" being a great single. Me mentioning it again by being conscious about it makes it truly 5 or 4 times. Okay that the 4th time 5 or 4 times has been mentioned and I'm laughing every time I see it. Great song breakdown - that was a good read. You caught the Aerosmith thing too with 'Huckleberry' - okay cool - 'Hickory' is like Bowie - I didn't realize - cool! Yeah "Peacoat" is a forgotten hidden gem to me too.įor some reason I'm not thrilled with the last 2 tracks like I was with the softer material on their last 3 albums - good but not great. "Cinnamon" - I don't hear Blink-182 - it's a bit in the punk pop realm but it's too poppy - I still think it's an actual attempt at 60's bubblegum but with sharper guitars. I'm caught between 2.5 and 3 stars on this one.Ĭlick to expand.Okay that the 4th time 5 or 4 times has been mentioned and I'm laughing every time I see it. Perhaps it’s just my expectations dropping but I liked it other than the lackluster ending.
Maybe it’s just the memories of the times? Overall, it’s a decent listen. One that I kind of like.Ī bit more accessible for me than Shangri La De Da. Samba Nova (Bonus Track) – An interesting listen for sure. But I’ll pass on the majority of the song, I do like the bridge, the guitar break and the slow part afterwards. Bordering on a dud, if not an outright one. A couple more listens might change my opinion towards the positive.įirst Kiss on Mars – Meh. A very good here… Perhaps this one is my favorite?įast As I Can – Solid rocker but somewhat non-distinct. Really good chorus on this one, it rivals some of the classic works. I like the bridge and guitar break after. Hazy Daze – Really good chorus but the verses are a bit lacklusterīagmam – Like the driving guitars in the verses. I’m also hearing some Blink 182 in this song which is a bit of a problem for me. The chorus reminds of something on Hole’s “Celebrity Skin”. Probably my favorite.Ĭinnamon - Borders on sing/song cheese at times but it mostly works. The chorus is a little more vintage STP.ĭare If You Dare – Beatles verses this time but that’s nothing new with STP.
Hickory Dichotoy – Now we have a Bowie vibe going on in the verses, which again, is fine with me. Huckleberry Crumble – Is this an Aerosmith cover? Sure sounds like “Same Ole Song and Dance”. Take a Load Off – Another strong song with kind of a “Purple” feel to it. Until now…īetween the Lines - Surprisingly strong opener. Upon release, I listened to it 5 or 4 times and thought it was OK, but never revisited it. Another album I haven’t heard in many years.
